THE IMPACT OF WEATHER Beyond hot and cold!

The ALA would like to remind our Labradoodle families of the importance of preventative health care and of being well informed. The recent floods have raised mosquito populations and therefore the risk of healthworm for our four legged friends. While treatment is possible, prevention is better than cure. You should consult your vet if you are concerned about your pet's health or need advice on heartworm prevention. There are oral, topical and injectable preparations to safeguard your best pal.

The Australian Veterinary Association has prepared some wonderful advice on pet care in flood situations... Hopefully this information can be tucked away but never have to be used. Please also read their media release online regarding an emerging heartworm threat in our recently flood affected regions.

Read more about heartworm on the website of the Australian Vetinary Association.

DNA testing for
'prcd-PRA'

The Australian Labradoodle Assoc. was the first dog breed association worldwide to require compulsory DNA testing for ‘prcd-PRA.

Prcd-PRA is a generic eye disease that Labradors, poodles and at least 28 other dog breeds carry. The disorder causes cells in the retina at the back of the eye to degenerate and die. There is no treatment or cure for PRA.

the ala vision

The vision of the ALA is to protect
and nurture the Australian Labradoodle throughout Australia and the world for successive generations.

To work with the Australia National
Kennel Club (ANKC) towards the goal of the full recognition of the labradoodle as a pure breed.

To advise and guide prospective
and current labradoodle owners and breeders in order to promote the gathering together of enthusiasts for the common good of the labradoodle breed and its fanciers.

To maintain as far as is possible
the current state of robust health in the Labradoodle.
